A photograph flattens the world into two dimensions and calls it a record. The Nimslo 3D camera offers a different proposition: four lenses firing simultaneously, each from a slightly offset position, capturing the same moment from four points of view in a single moment, on 35mm film. The result is an image with depth — not simulated, but derived from the same parallax the human eye uses to understand space.

 

The photos themselves are a body of ordinary moments of lived life, presented in two perceptual views: an animated gif simulating depth through movement, and an anaglyph that creates a 3D image in your brain using red-cyan glasses. In both, the subject is the same: what we miss when we flatten a moment into a single plane, what returns when we focus on the missing element, and the frozen moment that can't be viewed again.

 

These are documents of the ordinary, made strange by the insistence that there is always more to see.
